The firm's philosophy is to provide quality accounting, tax and related professional services to our clients on a timely basis. We strive to be good citizens in our community and make every effort to uphold our community reputation for reliable service performed in an independent and confidential manner.
Our firm was organized in 1929 by Frank P. Buck, an attorney and CPA with previous tax experience as an Internal Revenue Agent with the U.S. Government. On September 30, 1947, W.A. Sherrill, CPA and G.C. Smith, CPA, at the time senior staff accountants with the firm, acquired the accounting business from him. They operated the firm as a partnership under the name of Frank P. Buck Company until September 30, 1957, at which time the firm name was changed to Sherrill & Smith. On September 8, 1995 the firm became a Limited Liability Partnership and the name was changed to Sherrill & Smith, LLP. On August 27, 1999 the firm became a Professional Association and the name was changed to Sherrill & Smith, CPAs, PA.
Partners/Members who have retired from the firm include George C. Smith (1981), W.A. (Bill) Sherrill (1983), Stamey F. Carter (1988), J.A. (Jack) Daniels (1990), Gilbert E. Johnson (1990), Jerry D. Freeman (2013), and J.R. (Rick) Driscoll (2023).
